the recycled material area for weekly removal by a licensed hauler to a CIWMB Approved <br />0 Electronics Recycler. <br />Universal wastes, including household batteries (AA, NiCad, 9V, etc) fluorescent light bulbs and <br />tubes, and related items, are collected in the Recycling Drop-off Area in 55 -gallon drums and/or <br />universal waste storage boxes, as appropriate. Materials are removed regularly by a licensed <br />hazardous waste hauler to be processed for recycling. <br />7.6 APPLIANCE PROCESSING AND MATERIALS REQUIRING SPECIAL <br />HANDLING IN THE RECYCLING CENTER <br />7.6.1 General <br />These operational guidelines, including locations, volumes, equipment, etc., may change based <br />on the quantity of appliances received, the arrangement of contracted recycling services received <br />by the County, and applicable environmental regulations. <br />is The Solid Waste Site Manager directs Appliance Processing activities through the Solid Waste <br />Recovery Supervisors. The CAR reports to the Solid Waste Recovery Supervisor assigned to the <br />Recycling Center. <br />7.6.2 Certified Appliance Recycling <br />Appliances addressed in this include items such as refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, water <br />coolers, washers, dryers, ovens, stoves, furnaces, space heaters, water heaters, and trash <br />compactors. <br />Materials requiring special handling include materials such as Freon, mercury probes and <br />switches, used oil, metal encased capacitors, and encased PCBs or DEHP from appliance <br />compressors and transmissions. <br />Freon Removal requires special equipment, including: <br />• Refrigerant Vacuum Pump, hose and connectors <br />• Refrigerant Manifold <br />North County RC&SL Page 60 of 69 Public Works/Solid Waste <br />Joint Technical Document County of San Joaquin — February 10, 2010 <br />
