C
meniscus forms when the bottle is completely full. A convex Teflon -
lined septum will be placed over the positive meniscus to seal the
container. After capping, the bottle will be inverted and tapped to
check that no air bubbles are present. All samples for organic
analysis will be collected in duplicate. The sample containers for
other parameters will be filled, preserved as required, and capped.
1 be collected with a
Stream samples will dipper in accordance with the
procedure described in Section 9 of Tes. Methods for Evaluating Solid
(EPA SW -846, 3rd edition, November
1986). These samples will be collected at midstream, mid -depth
locations in an upstream to downstream direction unless otherwise
directed. Surface -water samples will not be filtered.
In order to determine dissolved concentrations of the compounds
specified, appropriate field filtration techniques will be implemented
by attaching a disposable acrylic copolymer filter directly to the
pump effluent line with a high-pressure fitting. As the bladder pump
cycles, the effluent will be pressured through the filter and directed
into the appropriate containers. Each filter will be used only once
and then discarded.
When a Teflon bailer is used to collect ground -water samples, filtra-
tion will be performed by emptying the contents of the bailer into a
high-pressure transfer vessel. A disposable acrylic copolymer filter
will be threaded onto the transfer vessel at the discharge point, and
the vessel will be sealed. Pressure will be applied to the transfer
vessel with a hand pump, and the filterate will be directed into the
appropriate containers. Filters will be discarded after each use.
One field blank and -one trip blank (bottle blank) made with organic -
free water will be carried into the field and delivered with the
samples to the laboratory. The field blank will be opened in the
field during sample collection to detect any influences from the
ambient atmosphere on sample quality. The trip blank will remain with
B-6
