The Calaveras Fault is used to develop the expected peak bedrock
acceleration for the Corral Hollow Sanitary Landfill since it is the
closest fault system for which generally accepted Maximum Probable
Earthquake (MPE) magnitude estimates have been made. In a report
titled "Geologic Investigation, Foothill Sanitary Landfill, San
Joaquin County, California, March 1988, J.H. Kleinfelder & Associates
determined that the MPE to occur along the Calaveras Fault is 7.0
Richter magnitude.
Using methods derived by H. Bolton Seed and T.M. Idress`' and assuming
an earthquake of 7.0 Richter Magnitude at 22 miles from the
landfill, the peak expected bedrock acceleration at the landfill is
0.20g. This is not expected to be a slope stability concern at the
site because the areas to receive waste and final cover for closure of
the site will have a maximum slope of 4:1.
6) This section does not apply to the Corral Hollow Sanitary Landfill
as a Class III site.
14
site location and also
the Jennings
fault
base.
As can be seen from
this figure, an event
of magnitude
5.0 to
5.9
has been recorded at
20
from
approximately miles
the site.
This
event
was actually of 5.5
Richter magnitude which
occurred in
1903.
This
earthquake occurred
just east of the Calaveras
Fault along
the Verona
Fault.
The Calaveras Fault is used to develop the expected peak bedrock
acceleration for the Corral Hollow Sanitary Landfill since it is the
closest fault system for which generally accepted Maximum Probable
Earthquake (MPE) magnitude estimates have been made.
