Peak daily loading is expected for the facility during certain parts of the year especially during
"Spring Cleanup". Peak daily loading is estimated at a 25 percent increase over average daily
loading based on records from waste disposal at Corral Hollow Landfill for 1992 and 1993.
These peak loading periods are not expected to affect operations at the Composting Facility
because material will be unloaded, stored in piles and processed at a constant rate which will
approximate the average daily rate.
2. DESIGN CAPACITY
The total area available at the Composting Facility for the compost pad that includes unloading
areas, processing, windrows, storage and final curing is approximately 5.0 acres. Initial pad
construction will be 60,000 square feet (1.4 acres). The pad will be extended over time as
material volumes increase. The initial pad area is estimated to have a load capacity of
approximately 50 tpd-5. The total pad area of 5.0 acres available has an estimated load capacity
of approximately 180 tpd-5. Should more area be necessary for unexpected material, the final
cure storage area for compost may be placed off the pad in available adjacent areas.
3. FEEDSTOCK MATERIAL TYPES
. The general categories of wastes anticipated to be received at the Composting Facility include
green plant material including but not limited to, leaves, grass clippings, weeds, tree trimmings,
untreated wood waste and shrubbery cuttings. These materials are currently accepted at the
Corral Hollow Sanitary Landfill and it is assumed similar materials would be processed by the
facility. Additives, such as animal manures and pumice, may be used when available to assist
in the aerobic decomposition and to improve the quality of the finished products. Amendments
may be required to provide attributes required by customers. No high liquid content wastes will
be accepted at the MRF/Transfer Station or Composting Facility including septic tank pumpings
or sewage sludge✓excefor cannery "tomato mud" and wastes.
D. TYPES AND NUMBERS OF VEHICLES ANTICIPATED TO ENTER THE FACILITY
The MRF/Transfer Station and Composting Facility is designed to accommodate many different
kinds of vehicles including vehicles unloading and removing material and employee and visitor
vehicles. Types of vehicles anticipated discharging and removing material at the Compsoting
Facility are as follows:
• Curbside yardwaste trucks
L:/PROJECT/397/MRF/RC1-4.TCY December 15, 1993
7
