Such operations include
animal bedding, bulking agents for sludge operations and feedstock for particle board. The fines
will be composted.
Compost Operation
A portion of the organic wastes will be composted using a windrow composting process.
The feedstock will consist of plant material including leaves, grass clippings, weeds, tree
trimmings, untreated wood waste, and shrubbery cuttings. Additives, such as animal manures
and pumice, may be used when available to assist in the aerobic decomposition and to improve
the quality of the finished products. Amendments may be required to provide attributes required
by customers. Additives and amendments will not include septage, sewage sludge, or mixed
municipal solid waste.
a. Waste Handling and Separation
Trucks or loaders from the Grinding Area will deliver size-reduced and moistened organic
wastes to the Windrowing Area. New windrows will be formed by depositing the material in
uniform rows as it arrives, with a loader being used to stack the material to its highest level.
The material will be stacked approximately 6' high, 14' wide and varying lengths up to 250'.
If necessary, a Windrow Turner will further mix the material once the windrow is formed.
Windrow placement will be parallel with the grade of the composting pad for leachate control
L_1PROJECT/397fMRF/RC14.TCY December 15, 1993
27
