APPENDIX D
•
SAMPLING AND ANALYSIS PLAN
The sampling and analysis procedures for the compost leachate monitoring program at the Tracy
Materials Recovery & Transfer Facility are presented in this appendix. The procedures will
provide for consistent and reproducible sampling methods; proper application of analytical
methods; accurate and precise analytical results; and provide guidelines so that the overall
objectives of the monitoring program are achieved.
The following documents have been used as guidelines for the development of these procedures:
• Methods for Organic Chemical Analysis of Municipal and Industrial Wastewater,
EPA-600/4-82-057, July 1982
• Methods for Chemical Analysis of Water and Wastes, EPA-600/4-79-020, revised
March 1983
• RCRA Groundwater Monitoring Technical Enforcement Guidance Document,
OSWER 9950.1, September 1986
• Test Methods for Evaluating Solid Waste: Physical/Chemical Methods, EPA SW-
846, 3rd edition, November 1986
SAMPLE COLLECTION
Sample collection procedures include equipment cleaning and compost leachate sampling.
Equipment Cleaning
Sample bottles, caps, and septa used in sampling for volatile and semivolatile organics shall be
triple rinsed with high-purity deionized water. After being rinsed, sample bottles shall be dried
overnight at 200°C. Sample caps and septa shall be dried overnight at 60°C. Sample bottles,
caps, and septa shall be protected from solvent contact between drying and actual use at the
sampling site. Sample bottles, caps, and septa shall be used only once and discarded after
analysis is complete.
L IPROIECTQW MMRC14.TCY D-1 Ft*uwy 1,19%
