4.0 GROUNDWATER AND SURFACE WATER MONITORING
The existing groundwater monitoring system, consisting of 5
monitoring wells, will be used for monitoring during the
postclosure period. These wells will be monitored according to
Waste Discharge Requirements (WDR) for the site. In addition,
surface water will be monitored according to the WDR's. Assuming
replacement of 1 well every 10 years and minor repairs on other
wells aPRroximately $2 . 000 pep r year would be needed.
COST
(Monitoring - $4000 x 4) _ $16,000
(Reporting - $2250 x 4) _ $ 9,000
(Estimated Annual Maintenance)= S 2,000
_ $27,000
5.0 ®AROSE ZONE MONITORING
Article 7.8, section 17781(c) (2) states that "The operator shall
design and operate a vadose zone monitoring system to detect the
escape of leachate from the waste in accordance with Title 23 , CCR,
Subchapter 15, Section 2559" . Subchapter 15, section 2559 (x)
states that "Class I and Class II waste management units and Class
III landfills with liners shall have an unsaturated zone monitoring
program whenever feasible" . The Corral Hollow Landfill does not
have a liner, so a vadose zone monitoring system is not required,
and a cost for monitoring is not included in this report.
In addition, leachate production will be very low at Corral Hollow
because of the low annual rainfall and the clay cap that will cover
the site.
6.0 FINAL COVER MAINTENANCE
Costs will include materials, labor, and repair of final cover due
to erosion, settling, or subsidence. It is estimated that the cost
for one equipment crew at $700 per day could do the necessary work
in 1 week annually.
COST
($700 X 5) _ $3,500
12
