However, compaction and optimum moisture content <br /> were performed on these samples. <br /> Loose thickness of the mixed material prior to compaction was measured daily at several <br /> locations on the barrier layer with an average loose thickness between approximately 19 and 21 <br /> inches. The average test pad loose thickness was about 19%inches. <br /> A CAT 825C sheepsfoot compactor was utilized to compact barrier layer soils. Approximately <br /> 4 to 6 passes were required on the barrier layer to achieve compaction requirements. The <br /> County and Granite measured barrier layer thickness by excavating barrier soils in a 100-foot <br /> grid pattern. The compacted barrier layer thickness was generally 14 to 15 inches with no <br /> readings less than 12 inches. Actual barrier layer thickness measurements are graphically <br /> presented on Plate 3.
