The purpose of this work plan is to present the procedures to install two (2)
Landfill Gas (LFG) extraction wells at Corral Hollow Sanitary Landfill (CHSL).
CHSL is a closed, unlined Class III landfill located at 31130 South Corral Hollow
Road, in southern San Joaquin County, approximately 5 miles south of the City
of Tracy, at the intersection of Interstate 580 and Corral Hollow Road (Figure 1).
The landfill covers approximately 58 acres, of which 43 acres was permitted
disposal area. The remaining area is comprised of access roads, storm water
retention ponds, setbacks for environmental monitoring, and firebreaks. Land
within 1,000 feet of the facility is use for grazing and agriculture. The landfill was
certified closed in 1996 and is under postclosure maintenance. Postclosure
maintenance at the site includes:
1.3 REASON FOR INSTALLING NEW LFG WELLS
The purpose of these wells is to increase corrective action by increasing LFG
collection on the north western side of the landfill near MW -5 and MW -8.
Detection of VOC compounds in MW -5 and MW -8 indicate the prime cause of
contamination to be LFG. It is anticipated that increasing LFG collection on the
north western side of the landfill will reduce VOC impact on the ground water as
detected in MW -5 and MW -8. The Regional Water Quality Control Board has
approved the installation of the new LFG wells as an increase in corrective action
to mitigate the impact to ground water.
Solid Waste Division's contractor, Ford Construction will, comply with this work plan and
construct new LFG wells per the construction drawings and specifications. Ford
Construction is a licensed contractor and has prior experience in installing LFG
extraction wells.
2.1 WELL LOCATION
Work Plan 3 Corral Hollow Sanitary Landfill
LFG Extraction Well Installation 2011
