1
■ Times and dates that drilling/excavation began and ended.
1 Type of exploratory equipment being utilized, including manufacturer, make, and
model for special modifications.
■ Name(s) and registration numbers for geologist(s) responsible for log description.
1 Name(s) of other personnel assisting in the logging.
■ Weather conditions.
■ Description of soils according to the Unified Soil Classification System and
1 description of bedrock materials according to accepted geologic nomenclature.
■ Systematic descriptions of lithologic and micro -structural changes in strata or soil
horizons, including thickness of units as well as the depth and elevation of lithologic
changes.
■ Presence of and depth to groundwater.
■ Caving or sloughing conditions in the hole, including depth and elevation.
■ Sampling interval(s), including depths and elevations.
■ Unusual color, staining, or odors of chemical or waste origin.
■ Drilling advancement in feet -per -hour (average) and/or feet -per -minute, noting
periods of difficult or very easy drilling.
■ Any subsurface structures or unusual features encountered.
■ Descriptions of mineral seams and fracture fillings.
■ Faults, gouge, or shear zones penetrated.
■ Depth and thickness of weathering.
■ An opinion as to the characteristics and hydraulic conductivity of water -bearing
lithologies.
■ Other notes and descriptions as required.
Drill cuttings will be spread on the ground at each drilling site.
3.3.3 HydropunchT" Sampler and Initial Groundwater Sampling
Once groundwater is encountered, drilling will be terminated and the augers will be
1 withdrawn in preparation for driving the HydropunchTM sampler. The HydropunchTM sampler
will be affixed to decontaminated 1 -1/4 -inch diameter steel casing that will be driven up to
1 20 feet into the saturated zone. Once the sampler reaches the target depth, the screen will
be opened to allow formational water to enter the screened interval. A disposable bailer
will be lowered through the steel casing to extract the groundwater sample for analysis of
1 VOCs. Sample collection methods are described in more detail in Section3.4.6. The
HydropunchTM sampler and steel casing will remain in the borehole for up to two weeks to
allow water levels to stabilize.
1 If VOCs are detected in the HydropunchTM sample, the sampler and casing will be removed,
and the borehole will be abandoned, and a replacement "step -out" borehole and
HydropunchT"' will be drilled and constructed according to the procedures outlined above.
Borehole abandonment will be conducted by grouting with a neat cement grout.
