Fill compacted to densities lower than the specified minimum density, or fill <br />compacted at moisture contents outside the specified acceptable range of <br />moisture content shall be reworked to meet the density and moisture <br />requirements or removed and replaced by acceptable fill compacted to meet <br />these requirements. <br />3.10 PREPARATION OF EARTHFILL SUBGRADE <br />A. Earthfill subgrade shall be scarified, moisture conditioned and recompacted as <br />specified in Table 02200-2 for Earthfill. <br />3.11 BACKFILLING <br />A. Bedding and Backfill Around Pipes <br />1. Take special care in bedding and backfilling operations to not damage pipe and <br />pipe coatings. <br />2. Place initial backfill into trench and tamp material under pipe haunches to <br />compact. <br />3. Place backfill material to completely surround pipe without voids. <br />4. Place backfill material in accordance with the Construction Drawings. <br />5. Place pipe bedding and backfill in layers not exceeding 8 inches in thickness. <br />Compact general backfill to 90 percent relative compaction of ASTM D1557 at <br />3 percent below to 3 percent above optimum moisture content, unless <br />otherwise stated on the Construction Drawings. <br />B. Backfill for Anchor Trenches <br />1. Use earthfill material with maximum particle size and aggregations of 3/4 -inch. <br />2. Place in loose lift thicknesses not exceeding 12 inches. <br />3. Compact each lift to 90 percent relative compaction based on ASTM D1557 at <br />+/-3 percent of optimum moisture content. <br />4.
