3.0 Slope Stability Verification
Prior to construction, the CQA laboratory must perform various tests to confirm cover
system slope stability. These tests will include shear strength of the compacted soils, soil
materials in contact with geosynthetic materials and shear strength of geosynthetics in
contact with other geosynthetics. Test procedures are summarized in Table 3-1. The
following test standards apply as modified by Table 3-1.
GRI GM—12 Measurement of Asperity Height of Textured Geomembranes using
a Depth Gauge
ASTM D3080 Standard Test Method for Direct Shear test of Soils under
Consolidated Drained Conditions
ASTM D5321 Standard Test Method for Determining the Coefficient of Soil and
Geosynthetic or Geosynthetic and Geosynthetic Friction by the
Direct Shear Method
These tests must be performed well in advance of construction using geosynthetic
materials specifically designed and manufactured for this project. The Design Engineer
of record must review and approve all test results and submit the results of the testing to
the County.
CH CQA Plan 041712 Rev2a.doc 3-1 Construction QualityAssurance Plan
