4.4.1 Delivery, Storage, and Handling <br /> The CQA Monitor will be present during delivery and unloading and verify the following: <br /> ® Individual pieces of stone protection are free from cracks, seams, and other defects that will <br /> cause rapid deterioration during service; <br /> ® Riprap and bedding material visually appear to be reasonably well-graded and falls within <br /> the limits of the riprap specification; <br /> ® Riprap consists of stones which are approximately rectangular in cross section and free <br /> from thin shale pieces, dirt clods, mud and other deleterious materials; and <br /> ® Rock is furnished from sources that have been sampled,tested, and approved for use. <br /> 4.4.2 Material Properties <br /> The CQA Monitor will: <br /> ® Review certified test results from the quarry to verify that riprap meets specified <br /> requirements of the construction specifications. <br /> ® Visually inspect and measure riprap delivered to the site. No formal CQA conformance <br /> testing for riprap will be performed. <br /> ® If CQA testing is performed, verify representative samples are used for this testing. <br /> 4.4.3 Geocomposite Cushion <br /> The CQA Monitor will verify the following during placement of the geotextile cushion to be <br /> constructed below the riprap: <br /> ® The geocomposite meets the material requirements of Section 02773 of the Specifications <br /> ® By visual inspection, verify placement of geotextile cushion is spread uniformly on the <br /> prepared subgrade in accordance with the specifications <br /> ® Any damage to the underlying subgrade or geotextile during placement of riprap is repaired <br /> before proceeding with work; <br /> 4.4.4 Riprap Placement <br /> The CQA Monitor will verify the following during riprap placement: <br /> ® Stone protection is placed in a manner to produce a reasonably well-graded mass of stone <br /> with the minimum practicable percentage of voids; <br /> ® Damage to underlying geotextile.cushion does not occur; <br /> ® The entire mass of stone in their final position is roughly graded to conform to the <br /> gradation specified; and <br /> CH CQA Plan 041712 Rev2a.doc 4.6 <br />
