The area
will be cleaned after the completion of the project.
During closure of CHSL fire break setbacks were set around the entire landfill. A
Knox —Box is installed in front at the entrance gate to enable the local fire authority
to enter CHSL during a fire. The closure cap extension project falls in the setback
for firebreak.
3.6 LANDFILL GAS
3.6.A Landfill Gas migration monitoring
The extension of the closure cap area falls within the current LFG
monitoring network of the Landfill (GW -1 and GW -7) (Figure 6) Therefore,
no new soil gas monitoring wells will be added in this project. All of the
existing soil gas monitoring wells have been in compliance with regulations
for off-site migration with the aid of the LFG system.
3.6.13 Landfill Gas collection
A LFG collection system was installed and began operating on December
2001 as a corrective action against LFG migration and VOC impacts to
groundwater. The LFG system consists of a Flare station and LFG
extraction wells installed in the Landfill (Figure 1, 6). Currently there are 39
LFG extraction wells. Extracted LFG is burned at the flare station. No new
LFG extraction wells will be installed during the closure cap extension
project.
A tentative construction schedule for the closure cap extension project is contingent upon
access to the Shell oil pipeline easement, the County bidding process and other factors.
The start date of the project is estimated to be June 2009.
Closure Plan Addendum San Joaquin County
Corral Hollow Sanitary Landfill 4 Department of Public Works
April 4, 2008 Solid Waste Division
