W
FINAL COVER
P
Final cover at French Camp Landfill will be applied as each 15 acre
module site reaches capacity. The final cover will consist of a 2
foot foundation layer followed by a 1 foot clay layer and a 1 foot
vegetation layer. Soils for the entire 4 feet of final cover will
be imported from outside sources.. Total soil needs for the 60 acre
landfill are shown in Table 2. The final cover will be applied by
"on-site" landfill equipment.
The foundation layer may consist of materials from the City's
Austin Road Landfill borrow pit, City's construction projects or
other approved sources. The next one foot layer will consist of
imported clay material. The clay material will be compacted to 950-o
of maximum density to obtain a permeability of 00000i cm/sec or
less. If 9511 compaction and the permeability specification cannot
be reached by normal methods, other amendments will be added to the
soil, so that the .000001 cm/sec permeability can be met. The
vegetation layer soil will be imported from other soil source
sites. The vegetation layer will be seeded with grass upon
completion.
As Table 2 indicates, approximately 387,000 cubic yards of cover
material are necessary to apply the 4 feet of final cover over the
landfill. Using a 25 ton truck -trailers, it would take about
21,500 loads of imported soil cover material. Based on an
application rate of about 6 loads per hour, it would take
approximately 112 days to apply final cover to each 15 acre module
site.
Final Cover
Depth
Cubic Yard
Foundation Layer
2 feet
193,600
Clay Layer
1 foot
96,800
Vegetative Layer
FTotal Cover
1 foot
4 feet
96,800
387,200 cu. yd.l
FWAPEWA ME
0 WOW 0 4
VA
