The French Camp Landfill, located on the west side
of Manthey Road and Downing Avenue in Stockton,
California, encompasses 72 acres of which 65 acres
is presently used for "green waste" disposal.
The landfill operation commenced in 1938 as a burn
dump site. In 1957 the City's garbage was rerouted
to the Austin Road landfill and the French Camp
site was only used for demolition waste and garden
refuse.
The landfill has been closed to the general public
since 1980 and serves the City's garden refuse
collection system and licensed gardeners and
maintenance contractors only.
Since the landfill site does not have an accessible
soil cover material source, cover material is
imported from various public construction projects.
An intermediate grading plan has been implemented
whereby approximately twelve (12) inches of soil
cover is placed over the graded "green waste"
material to eliminate water ponding on the landfill
surfaces.
On the southeasterly portion landfill, see Figure
licit, a sedimentation pond is proposed capable of
retaining 2.5 million gallons of runoff water. The
pond would be located adjacent to French Camp
Slough and be used as an integral part of this
pollution prevention plan.
