PUBLIC AEALTH SER'V*ICES
SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY
ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH DIVISION " `
Karen Furst, M.D., M.P.H., Health Officer ;P..
304 East Weber Avenue, Third Floor • Stockton, CA 95202
209/468-3420
April 27, 1998
MEMORANDUM
TO: Wes Johnson,Assistant Engineer
San Joaquin County Public Works Department
Solid Waste Division
FROM: Greg Oliveira,Senior R.E.H.S
(--l-I
Environmental Health Division
SUBJECT: LANDFILL GAS MONITORING,HARNEY LANE LANDFILL
Per my conversation with Tim Crist,California Integrated Waste Management Board,on April 23, 1998,it
is the position of the Board that all gas monitoring probes shall be monitored every quarter, including those
that exhibit negative pressure. This requirement is specified in California Code of Regulations,Title 27,
Section 20932.The only exception is for flooded probes.According to Mr. Crist, probes with slight
negative pressures, such as those found during the January 1998 monitoring event, can still be monitored
without causing damage to sampling equipment.Probes with larger negative pressures should be monitored
by evacuating gas to a Tedlar bag and then sampling the Tedlar bag with monitoring equipment.
Please begin sampling all probes, except flooded probes, during subsequent monitoring events.
cc: Tim Crist,California Integrated Waste Management Board
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
