The piping connecting the extraction wells is comprised of HDPE, and is buried in <br /> the vegetative layer of the landfill. Each well is connected through a lateral pipe to <br /> the main header pipes. <br /> As LFG flows in the piping, LFG condensate collects in the piping and flows to the <br /> condensate sumps installed at the low points in the LFG piping. Automatic <br /> pneumatic condensate sump pumps then pump condensate from the sumps to a <br /> storage tank in the flare station. This condensate is evaporated, and the VOCs <br /> entrained within the condensate are combusted, within the flare. <br /> 1.2.A FLARE SYSTEM <br /> The mayor components of the flaresystem are: <br /> a. Flare control and monitoring instrumentation <br /> b. Knock-out pot <br /> c. Two multi-stage centrifugal suction blowers. The blowers are <br /> connected in parallel configuration and one blower operates at a time <br /> while the other is used as a standby. <br /> d. Flame arrestor <br /> e. Enclosed flare manufactured by Sur-Lite Corporation. <br /> f. Compressed air supply, including: <br /> i. Reciprocating air compressor <br /> ii. Refrigerant dryer <br /> iii. Coalescing and particulate filters. <br /> g. Condensate injection system. <br /> Condensate pumped from the condensate sumps is stored in a 1000 gallon <br /> tank mounted on a concrete slab surrounded by a continuous 3-foot tall <br /> concrete wall designed as an overflow containment system. <br /> A high pressure electric pump controlled by float switches in the tank, injects <br /> the condensate to a fogger nozzle installed inside flare chamber to a limited <br /> flow rate of 0.6 gpm. An air blower connected to the fogger nozzle further <br /> creates the condensate emitting out of the fogger nozzle into a fog and then <br /> blows the fog above the flare burner for proper destruction. <br /> The condensate injection system is provided with an alarm which shuts <br /> down the flare if the condensate tank is more than half full.
