MW-6
No general water quality parameter concentration limits were exceeded and no VOCs were
detected in MW-6 during this period.
MW-6 like MW-1 serves as a background well for the landfill.
Evaluation of Impact to Groundwater by Off-Site Wastewater Treatment Ponds
A review of the general chemical constituents indicates that the treatment ponds appear to act as
a source of constituents in groundwater. In all cases, constituents are lower in background well
MW-6, then rise in well MW-5, and then fall in wellMW-4A (see table below).
Monitoring Wells
Constituent MW-6 MW-5 MW-4A
(upgradient of (down gradient of (downgradient of
ponds) ponds and MW-5)
upgradient of MW-4)
EC (us/cm) 293 917.4 440.1
Calcium (mg/L) 21 93 17
Magnesium (mg/L) 9.5 49 10
Alkalinity (as CaCO3, 97 420 130
mg/L)
Hardness (as CaCO3, 86 430 83
mg/L)
Surface Water
As noted previously, Surface water samples are no longer taken at this site. CCR Title 27
Section 20415 (c) "Surface Water Monitoring Systems" paragraph (1) "General' requires that
"The discharger shall establish a surface water monitoring system to monitor each surface water
body that could be affected by a release from the Unit."
The physical configuration of the landfill, including berms and retention ponds, makes it highly
unlikely that a release to the "surface water" (drainage ditch south of the retention pond) would
occur. The County is in the process of preparing a report to demonstrate that even a thousand-
year (1000-year) storm will not cause a release from the unit.
Storm Water
There were no storm water discharges to the waters of the State (drainage ditch) during this
reporting period. Storm water sampling locations SW-1, SW-2, and SW-3 were not sampled due
to the absence of water. Any discharge to the waters of the State would require the manual
operation of the pumps in the retention basin to pump into the drainage ditch.
Harney Lane Sanitary Landfill 6 Department of Public Works/Solid Waste
1"Semiannual 2014 Groundwater Monitoring Report County of San Joaquin—July 31,2014
