VHs <br />COMMENTS ON 39 MAY 2006 GROUNDWATER MONITORING WELL INSTALLATION <br />WORKPLAN FOR COVE CONTRACTORS LANDFILL, SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY <br />The Regional Water Quality Control Board (Regional Water Board) staff reviewed the <br />Groundwater Monitoring Well Installation Workplan (Workplan) prepared by Clayton Group <br />Services, Inc. This Workplan presents procedures for abandonment and installation of <br />replacement groundwater monitoring wells MW -9 and MW -10 at the landfill. <br />For the most part, the Workplan is acceptable, however staff has the following comments that <br />must be addressed before the Workplan can be approved. Response to comments may be <br />submitted as an addendum and/or changed pages to the Workplan. Comments are <br />summarized below: <br />Location of reinstalled wells. The proposed relocation sites for MW -9 and MW -10 <br />appear to be up -gradient of the landfill footprint, while the original locations monitored <br />the north side of the landfill. Please provide revised locations that are in similar <br />hydraulic locations (i.e., north side of the landfill). If north side locations are not feasible, <br />please provide down -gradient locations. <br />2. Drilling Details. Please provide the following site-specific information: <br />a. Drilling technique (e.g., hollow stem auger), <br />b. Soil -sampling interval, and <br />c. Soil logging methods. <br />3. Monitoring Well Design. Please provide a diagram with the proposed well <br />construction details as follows: <br />a. Casing diameter, <br />b. Borehole diameter and depth of surface seal, <br />c. Well construction materials, <br />d.
