3 REMEDIAL ACTION OBJECTIVES 3.1 REGULATORY CRITERIA Remedial action objectives (RAOs) consist of media-specific, quantitative goals that define the extent of cleanup required to protect human health and the environment and to comply with applicable regulations. The nature and extent of impact at the site, combined with the RAOs, are discussed in the following sections. 3.2 NATURE AND EXTENT OF LANDFILL GAS IMPACTS As mentioned previously, elevated methane gas concentrations have been reported at the site. Historically, the TGP probes located in the center of the site have reported elevated methane concentrations. Specifically, significant concentrations of several VOCs have been detected during landfill gas sampling events and will require control. Additional constituents of concern and their respective maximum concentrations are presented in Table 1.
