extend to depths consistent with the other perimeter gas probes at 9, 19, and 34 feet bgs.
Boring logs, documenting soil lithology every 5ft,will be completed at each location.
4.3 LANDFILL GAS SAMPLING AND ANALYSIS
4.3.1 SAMPLING ACTIVITIES
Approximately 3 filter pack volumes will be purged from each gas probe prior to sampling. Field
analyses will be conducted for methane, carbon dioxide, pressures (both barometric and gas),
and temperature (both ambient and gas) using a Landtec GEM 2000 landfill gas monitor, or
equivalent. All results will be recorded on a landfill gas probe field form.
Field sampling at all perimeter gas probes (PGP) will be increased from quarterly sampling
events to monthly sampling events, as described above, until such time as the CIWMB and the
RWQCB approve a reduction in monitoring. PGP-1 and PGP-2 will be maintained, monitored,
and sampled as part of the field sampling program only. Laboratory analyses will continue to
be conducted on a quarterly basis at perimeter gas probes PGP-1A, PGP-2A, PGP-3, PGP-4,
PGP-5, and PGP-6 and all interior (TGP) landfill gas probe locations. Results will be included in
the quarterly monitoring reports, as described in the Sample Collection and Analysis Plan (Miller
Brooks, July 2007).
4.4 DATA EVALUATION
Both the monthly field data and the quarterly field and laboratory landfill gas data will be
compared to the regulatory criteria for methane. In addition, methane concentrations
reported in PGP-1 and PGP-2 will be compared to the newly installed PGP probes (PGP-1 A and
PGP-2A) located outside of the landfill perimeter. Perimeter gas probes reporting
concentrations of methane 5% or greater will require immediate action by the Discharger as
required in 27 CCR Section 20937.
4.4.1 VERIFICATION OF RELEASE
In the event that methane concentrations greater than 5%are reported from the perimeter gas
probes, Cove Contractors will follow the Reporting and Control of Excessive Gas Concentration
requirements in accordance with 27 CCR Section 20937 (a) through (c). Including, but not
limited to, the following requirements:
• Immediately take all steps necessary to protect public health and safety and the
environment and notify the Enforcement Agency (EA) by telephone or electronic
means.
• Within seven (7) days of detection of excessive landfill gas concentrations verify validity
of results and place in the operating record a description of and submit a letter to the EA
in accordance with 27 CCR Section 20937 (a)(2).
8 'SF AMLLEN NAW vas
P:\707 Cove Contractors\Feasibility Study and Corrective Action Plan\Corrective Action Plan_Final.doc
