• 0
1 MONITORING WELL INSTALLATION WORKPLAN
A. GENERAL INFORMATION
• Purpose of the monitoring well installations will be conducted on behalf of Cove
Contractors, Inc, and will be conducted to further define the horizontal extent of
potential groundwater contamination as discussed in the Feasibility Study prepared
by Miller Brooks Environmental (Miller Brooks, March 8, 2010). Installation of monitoring
wells is at the direction of Ms. Mary Boyd of the Central Valley Regional Water Quality
Control Board.
• The site vicinity map is illustrated in Figure 1.
• Two groundwater monitoring wells will be installed along the north eastern boundary
of the Site. One monitoring well will be located north of PGP -6 and one will be
located south of PGP -6 and will be identified as MW -12 and MW -13, respectively (see
Figure 2). Depending on the access granted by Union Pacific Railroad Company, an
additional 2 monitoring wells will be installed beyond the eastern property boundary
within the railroad property. Installation activities will be conducted at least 25 from
the nearest track if possible (see Figure 2 for proposed installation locations). These
additional monitoring wells will be placed in the down gradient direction northeast of
the property boundary. The proposed locations are selected to intercept impacted
groundwater that may be migrating from the Site based on contaminant
concentrations in groundwater flow data related to the existing well network.
• After installation is complete, a licensed surveyor will survey the new monitoring well
locations, as described in Section E.
• Miller Brooks will obtain the necessary permits or authorizations from San Joaquin
County Department of Environmental Health prior to conducting the monitoring well
installations. Copies of permits will be provided to the RWQCB upon approval of the
workplan.
• To prevent potential cross -contamination, all drilling equipment will be
decontaminated by the drilling subcontractor in between boreholes.
• A site specific Health and Safety Plan is provided in Appendix A.
• In addition, a scaled map of the facility site features, including the proposed
monitoring well locations, is illustrated in Figure 2.
B. DRILLING DETAILS
• Gregg Drilling, Inc., located in Martinez, California, will conduct the installation of the
monitoring wells by using a hollow stem auger drill rig.
• Boring logs, documenting soil lithology every 5ft, will be completed by a field
geologist. The Unified Soil Classification System will be utilized to describe the soil
lithology at each monitoring well installation location.
MILLER BROOKS
P:\707 Cove Contra ctors\Groundwater\Well Installation Workplans\Work Plan MW-12_MW-13_FINAL.dc -i arc
