Physical damage expressed initially as a Temporary Threshold Shift(TTS) and then, as a <br /> Permanent Threshold Shift (PTS), or immediately as a Permanent Threshold Shift if the <br /> impact noise is sufficient enough(usually greater than 100 dBA) <br /> Appropriate hearing protection must be utilized in areas of unacceptable noise levels. <br /> If, based on the hazard analysis (Table 4), biological hazards exist associated with tasks to be performed <br /> and site location(e.g.,allergic reactions to poisonous plants or insects indigenous to the area, etc.); hazard <br /> mitigators(Appendix D)must be implemented. <br /> 5.0 PERSONAL PROTECTION <br /> 5.1 Personal Protective Equipment(PPE) <br /> The levels of personal protection required for each task are provided in Appendix E.Required equipment <br /> and types of protective clothing materials are listed. This PPE is based on the hazards identified in <br /> Section 4. Required equipment and types of protective clothing materials are listed, as well as an <br /> indication of the initial level of protection. <br /> Is there potential for a respirator to be donned during fieldwork? ❑ Yes ® No <br /> It is not anticipated that the use of respirators will be needed, however during the drilling work and <br /> sampling the area will be monitored via gas meter. If there is an indication that a respirator is required <br /> work will be halted until tasks have ben re-evaluated and the HASP has been updated as needed. <br /> The general use of PPE is acceptable when engineering controls cannot adequately eliminate the hazard. <br /> The use of PPE is intended to provide protection for on-site personnel from chemical, physical, and <br /> operational hazards that cannot be controlled through other safety procedures. Initially, Level D <br /> Protection will be employed by on-site personnel and will include varying levels of eye,head,body,hand, <br /> foot, and hearing protection. <br /> Respiratory protection will not be required. However, if respirators are worn, workers must adhere to the <br /> company's Respiratory Protection Program (29 CFR §1910.134). Table 2 should be used to provide a <br /> record of the site workers' last fit test. Beards (i.e., facial hair interfering with the respirator seal)are not <br /> allowed. <br /> Acceptable PPE are further described below. <br /> 15 <br />
