Transfer Station and Recycling Center
Types of waste received at the facility include residential, light commercial, construction
and demolition debris, garden waste, agricultural wastes, food processing wastes, and
recyclables from the buy back operation.
Up to 2,000 tons per day of incoming material will be dumped on the tipping floor. This
waste, composed of municipal wastes, cardboard, high grade paper, newspaper, plastic,
aluminum cans, metals, wood, rock and rubble, and other recoverable materials, will be
hand sorted and separated. The remaining waste is pushed into 100 cubic yard transfer
trailers and hauled to approved county landfill sites.
The plastics and cardboard are pushed to the baler for processing. Newspaper, cans,
metals, rock and rubble and other recyclables are stored in the areas shown on Figure
5 and shipped to market on a regular basis.
Wood and brush is crushed with the Caterpillar tractor at the resource recovery area and
shipped off site to be ground for fuel. A wood grinder will be located on site at the
wood waste recovery area. The area to be used for this is shown on Figure 5.
Other items separated in the resource recovery area include metals, appliances,
mattresses, box springs, lawn mowers, and other reusable materials. Agricultural wastes
are dewatered at the area shown and either sent to appropriate markets offsite or used in
the composting operation.
7
