6.0 WORK REQUIREMENTS <br /> 6.11 Respiratory Protection <br /> Landfill operations will be initiated in Level D. The primary route of potential <br /> exposure for chemicals is inhalation of fugitive dust. <br /> Inhalation hazards due to volatilization will be monitored visually. If on-site dust <br /> levels impair visibility during field activities, work shall be temporarily stopped to <br /> wet the area responsible for generating dust. If dust problems continue, a <br /> temporary stop work order will be observed and the Forward Health and Safety <br /> Officer shall be notified. <br /> 6.2 Dermal Protection <br /> Unless adequate precautions are taken, chemicals may contact the skin or <br /> clothing. Potential physical contact with chemicals of concern are possible under <br /> the following circumstances: <br /> o Hazardous and waste material handling <br /> o Recycling activities <br /> 6.2.1 Personal Protective Equipment <br /> The necessary equipment required at the landfill will vary depending on the <br /> activities and area at which employee is working. Certain job activities require <br /> modifications to the PPE listed below. <br /> Forward and contractor/subcontractor personnel will wear the following <br /> protective clothing on site: <br /> o Hard hats <br /> o Steel-toed/steel-shank boots <br /> o Inner and outer disposable PVC gloves for soil handling (to be changed <br /> immediately after handling is completed) <br /> o Safety,glasses <br /> o Uncoated Tyvek coveralls (if potential for splashing exists) <br /> o Hearing protection <br /> 10 <br /> 3/17/2011 <br />
