6.3 Action Levels <br /> 6.3.1 Action Levels for a Temporary Stop Work <br /> The SSO Shall impose a temporary stop work and contact the Forward Health <br /> and Safety Director immediately if the following conditions are observed, or if <br /> there is a question about site conditions: <br /> o Uncontrolled dust generation <br /> o Indications of heat stress <br /> o Changes in the general health profile of on-site personnel, including <br /> headaches, dizziness, breathing difficulties, irritation to the eyes, nose, <br /> throat and hands. <br /> 6.4 Protection Against Physical Hazards <br /> 6,4.1.1 Excavation Instability <br /> The limits of excavation and methods(s) of stabilizing the side walls shall be <br /> approved by the engineer before the excavation begins. Workers will not enter <br /> excavations deeper than 4 feet. All requirements pursuant to 29 CFR 1926.651 <br /> and 652, Excavations, Trenching and Shoring, shall be observed. <br /> 6.4,2 Noise <br /> Noise results primarily from excavation, grading, recycling equipment, and other <br /> machinery. Workers will wear earplugs when operating heavy machinery to <br /> avoid noise that may exceed the 85-decibel Threshold Limit Value established by <br /> the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists. <br /> 6.4.3. Electric Shock <br /> All electrical equipment to be used during landfill operations will be suitably <br /> grounded and Insulated. <br /> 6.4.3 Heavy Equipment <br /> Hazards related to excavation, compaction, grading, and recycling equipment will <br /> necessitate securing the work area.
