The County may purchase tower lighting, if needed. The tower lighting systems will
be portable, and will be provided with dedicated generators.
e. Fire Fighting Equipment
The proposed Station renovation will include the installation of a booster pump and
fire water storage tank for fire suppression sprinkler systems and standpipes in the
buildings and the installation of fire hydrants throughout the Station. The locations
of proposed hydrants are shown on Drawing RSI-8. Locations of proposed fire hoses
in the Transfer Building are shown on Drawing RSI-3.
The construction plans for the Station must receive final approval from the Manteca-
Lathrop Fire District (MLFD), the County Building Department, and meet applicable
fire codes. The design must segregate the supply system for fire protection from the
supply for other uses such as irrigation, sanitary, and drinking supply.
A copy of the MLFD notification of final approval of the design plans will be
forwarded to the EHD in the future, when available.
f. Protection of Users
A major feature of the Station renovation will be the construction of the Transfer
Building. The building will have a depressed tipping floor elevation relative to the
Non-Automated Disposal (4 feet) and Automated Disposal (8 feet) floors. This
difference in elevations, as shown on Drawing RSI-3, will isolate the handling of
waste on the tipping floor from the site users in both the Non-Automated Disposal
and Automated Disposal areas. Both areas will be on raised concrete foundations
which will supply walls that will prevent handling equipment from contacting site
users. The Non-Automated Disposal side is provided with an 8 foot wide sidewalk
curb and 4 foot raised height differential from the Tipping Sorting Floor. The
Automated Disposal side is provided with wheel sops and an 8 foot raised height
differential from the Tipping/Sorting Floor.
g. Safety Equipment
The CSWD has work rules that require all operational personnel within the work
areas of the Station to wear the following safety equipment:
• Hard hats
• Hard sole shoes
• Bright colored safety vests
• Safety glasses
• Gloves.
In addition to this equipment, the County provides employees that are exposed to
loud noise with hearing protection (ear plugs or hearing protectors). Dust masks are
available to workers in the tipping/sorting floor area.
07549001.012 40 September 23,1993
