Future Expansion
The transfer stations are conceived so that additional capacity can
be easily incorporated at a future date. For the Direct Dump facil-
ity, provisions have been made for the addition of another drive-
through loading station adjacent to the one required for current
tonnage. For the Hydraulic Compaction station, an additional com-
pactor can be added with minimal modification.
Recycling Center
The recycling center consists primarily of 20-cubic yard collection
bins for recyclable material and a flea market. The collection bins
are identified for the deposit of the following:
• Ferrous
Aluminum
Glass
• Newsprint
• Cardboard
Reusable items which are salable in the as-is condition will be
dropped off at the flea market. Provisions are available for the
relocation of the existing baling operation which consists of three
balers and related equipment for the baling of (a) clean paper,
(b) newsprint, and (c) cardboard. The public will not be permitted
in this area. Located adjacent to and between the recycling area
and the baling operation will be an office and reception-information
center.
3C TRANSFER STATION COSTS
Capital
Estimated capital costs for the two alternative stations, itemized
in Table 3-1, with recycling center, itemized in Table . 3-1, are
$3, 232, 000 for the Hydraulic Compaction station and $3, 272,000 for.
the Direct Dump station. This table does not include required haul
transfer vehicles . Vehicle requirements and costs are established
and itemized in Chapter 4. Also not covered in these capital costs
are the costs incurred in relocating the baling operation equipment.
For the purposes of this report, a 20-year economic life and 80
interest rate will be used to amortize initial costs.
- 10 -
