Dear Customer: <br /> Federal and state laws make it your responsibility to prevent <br /> improper disposal of hazardous wastes. Customers disposing of <br /> refuse, are responsible for ensuring that wastes placed in col- <br /> lection containers are strictly municipal wastes and do not <br /> contain any hazardous materials. Garbage, refuse, rubbish, and <br /> some industrial wastes are not defined as hazardous by the U. S. <br /> E.P.A. or the California Department of Health Services . <br /> Most toxic, corrosive and flammable materials are hazardous <br /> wastes . Also included are materials which cause irritation or <br /> sensitivity to living tissue (substance which on contact with <br /> the skin would cause inflammation or allergic reaction), and <br /> materials which build up pressure in their container. <br /> Examples of hazardous wastes include many chemicals, pesticides, <br /> cleaning cgmpounds, motor oil , degreasing solvents, paint, paint <br /> thinners, pool chemicals, acid and alkali solutions, plating <br /> wastes, infectious wastes, asbestos, any thing labeled poison or <br /> flammable, and soil or refuse contaminated with these materials , <br /> Any empty hazardous chemical containers should have all labels <br /> removed or obliterated.
