filters, automotive batteries, used antifreeze and other recyclable household hazardous waste will
be received on a continuous basis and either stored in designated areas or in approved hazardous
material storage containers. Materials identified from the hazardous waste load checking
program (Appendix B) will also be separated for temporary storage. An area may also be
provided for periodic household hazardous waste collection events that would be coordinated and
sponsored by San Joaquin County. During those events, personnel would be present to receive
and identify potentially hazardous substances from residential sources such as paint, solvents,
oil, insecticides, herbicides and house cleaners. Materials would be labeled, packaged in drums,
stored and transported off the site. In no cases will hazardous commercial or industrial wastes
be accepted at the facility.
e. Other Wastes Requiring Special Handling
As discussed above, used automotive batteries, oil, oil filters and antifreeze will be received at
the facility as well as material separated from the load checking program. The material will be
temporarily stored in a designated area or an approved hazardous material storage container.
The acceptance and temporary storage of this material will comply with all State and County
requirements.
Tires will be accepted and stored onsite in a designated trailer until the ler is full then hauled
off-site. White goods will also be accepted and stored in a designated area for disposal when
a full load has been received. Prior to disposal, freon will be removed from appliances in
compliance with all applicable regulations.
2. WASTE QUANTITIES
a. Design Capacity
The station has been designed to accommodate the projected waste generation through the year
2010. The material handling design capacity for the station by the year 2010 is estimated at an
average of 800 tons per day and a peak of 1,000 tons per day of material delivered to the site.
This pertains to the entire facility design capacity, which includes material sorting, recovery and
processing, residual waste transfer, yard and wood receiving, composting and storage. The
facility is capable of handling this waste quantity during the intended hours of operation without
resulting in stacking of traffic onto public streets, overflowing of storage capacity for waste,
1—/PR0JWr/397/MRF/RS1-1.TCY
Revision 1.0 7 Fcbnwy 1,1994
