Load Checking Program
Tracy Material Recovery&Transfer Facility
30703 S. MacArthur Drive,Tracy,CA 95377
3. Public Communication/Education
3.1. Signage
Signage regarding the Facility non-acceptance of PW is required to be posted at
the front gate in front of the fee building. The sign shall state at a minimum that
hazardous waste is prohibited at the Facility and shall list the most common
types of hazardous waste. Signage shall also state that all waste loads are
subject to inspection. The sign will be in both English and Spanish and may
include other languages if spoken by a large majority of customers using the
facility as determined by the Operations Manager.
Employees performing load checks will refer customers to the sign when PW is
encountered.
3.2. Printed Information
Facility load check and fee collection staff will be provided with flyers to pass out
to customers with information regarding avenues for the legal disposal of PW.
The flyers will be made in-house or obtained from the local lead agency for HHW
collection and HW management.
At a minimum the flyers will include:
• A list of the most common types of hazardous waste.
• Current list of dates, times and locations for residential HHW collection facilities
or HHW collection events or phone numbers and other contact information for
the customer to obtain current information regarding HHW collection locations
and events.
The flyers may include:
• Contact information for the local Small Quantity Generator Program
• A list of companies providing hazardous waste services for businesses in the
local area or a description of where to find this information.
• Contact information for local and State agencies responsible for hazardous
waste management oversight including local Certified Unified Program Agencies
and State Department of Toxic Substances Control.
The above informational flyers will be maintained in sufficient quantity at the
facility and passed out to customers when PW is found in their waste loads. The
above information may also be delivered in billing statements in addition to
providing them directly to Facility customers.
Fact Sheets regarding specific PW are another useful tool to present the
customer with when returning PW. Fact sheets for specific waste streams are
digitally available at:
• The California Department of Toxic Substances Control at
http://www.dtsc.ca.qov/PublicationsForms/index.cfm
• The Department of Recycling Resources and Recovery (CalRecycle) at:
5
