Facility Capacity Study
Tracy Material Recovery Faci/ity and Transfer Station Expansion
30703 S. MacArthur Drive, Tracy, California 95377
COMPost Facility
Facility Capacity- 600 TPD
The composting facility will process an average of 132 TPD of green materials and food
waste for conversion into compost and mulch products, with a seasonal peak of 200
TPD. The grinding equipment is capable of processing from 50 tons per hour. With an
operating day of up to 14 hours per day — but which in reality will only operate up to 12
hours per day—the facility could easily process 600 TPD.
Pad Space Capacity—4,000 CYD
The Compost Pad space is adequate for storage of up to 4,000 CYD of raw organic
material, where 1,600 CYD per day may be received, allowing up to 3 days of storage
before grinding. Since grinding occurs every 48 hours, there is adequate storage
capacity for incoming organic materials.
Inert Processing Facility
Inert Processing Facility- 3,000 TPD
The Inert Processing Facility will operate as a crushing facility for concrete, asphalt, and
like inert materials for recycled aggregate products. The grinding equipment is capable
of processing 250 tons per hour. With an operating day of up to 16 hours per day— but
which in reality will only operate up to 10 hours per day — the facility could easily
process 3,000 TPID.
The actual amount of material to be received will vary based upon seasonal peak
construction activity.
Pad Space Capacity— 3,500 CYD
The Inert Pad Space allows 3,500 CYD of mixed C&D material, where 3,500 CYD per
day may be received.
Types and Numbers of Vehicles
Vehicles anticipated to enter the Tracy MRF & TS include (1) collection trucks and
hauling vehicles, (2) trucks removing recovered materials, (3) transfer trucks carrying
solid waste to a landfill, and (4) vehicles used to transport employees to the facility.
Traffic volume was assessed during the original land use permitting and approved at
560 vehicles per day (with an incoming total tonnage volume of 1,038 tons per day).
Based upon a proposed volume of 2,500 tons per day of incoming solid waste, a total of
1,727 vehicles per day, or 1,167 additional vehicles per day, are expected, as shown in
Table 5. The projected hourly traffic is provided in Table 6.
7
