Grit material removed from the ponds is piled up and may become a source of fly breeding.
Properly spread and grade the grit material to reduce or eliminate the potential to breed flies.
Properly spread and grade by April 2, 2007.
6. The area south of the south access road needs to be disced and graded to reduce the weeds and to
spread the pond grit stored there. Disc and grade by April 2, 2007.
7. There were four lead acid batteries stored on the ground along the western wall of the building
adjacent to the north incinerator. Properly store all lead acid batteries off of the surface of the
ground. If the batteries cannot be reused, have them properly recycled by April 2, 2007.
8. The facility has two holding ponds onsite. One of the ponds is primarily used for the storage of
the liquid manure and the other pond serves as overflow storage for the primary manure pond:
The primary pond has an accumulation feathers and manure solids that rise above the liquid level
of the ponds. This was listed as an issue on the May 24, 2006 EHD inspection report. Remove
and or agitate the solids until they are completely covered with liquid by April 2, 2007.
9. The facility roads contain several large potholes that hold standing water, limiting facility access,
and providing a source for mosquito breeding. Grade all onsite roads and maintain them so that
the facility can be accessed during all weather conditions by May 1, 2007.
10. The facility uses a Reverse Osmosis (RO) water filter to remove salts and calcium from the water
source used to feed the birds. The RO discharge is being discharged to the surface of the ground.
Discontinue the RO discharge immediately and contact the Regional Water Quality Control
Board to determine proper handling of RO discharge.
Structural:
1. The deteriorated poultry houses (#9 and #14) have been demolished. Some of the demolition
material from the houses is still on the ground. Properly remove the solid waste material from the
site by April 2, 2007.
A follow-up inspection will be conducted on April 9, 2007.
