This data
was collected during the calendar year, 1995.
Background Information
The City of Tracy operates a State approved land application program (Order No. 91-
160). The City applies air dried sludge on approximately 2000 acres of City and farmer
owned land, at agronomic rates. During calendar year 1995, the City applied 2229 dry
short tons or 2023 dry metric tons of sludge on 502 acres. These amounts allow for
estimated sand in the sludge. Based on the EPA monitoring criteria, a total of six
quarterly samples must be collected per year at this application rate and monitored for the
EPA 503 criteria.
The City applies anaerobically digested sludge to air drying beds and the sludge dries for
at least three months before application. Sludge is stockpiled in the air drying beds and
applied in the fall or spring of each year.
Sampling Procedures
Six composite samples of air dried sludge were collected before sludge application.
Metals and nutrient analyses were performed on these. Six grab samples were also
collected bfore application and analyzed for the 503 pathogens. A copy of the sampling
plan is being included for reference. Full core samples, as specified in the plan, could not
be physically collected with an auger Therefore, the beds were disected with a front-end
loader at the indicated locations and full depth composites collected at each.
1
