The man-made reservoirs and ponds on the sitc, provide
various degrees of riparian habitat most of the year. A
great blue heron ( ard_ea berodias ) was sited near a pend dur-
ing this investigation, indicating that this marshbird con-
siders the project site at least a part of its habitat.
yn The red-tailed and accipiter Hawks were also sited on
the project property. The open ( uncultivated) grasslands
serve as habitat for a variety of small mammals which attract
the red-tailed hawk. she accipiters were more attracted to
the groups of streamside trees where food was more plentiful.
Widely-ranking mammals such as coyote , bobcat and fog:
would include the site as part of their habitat , but prime
areas such as breeding and den sites are not apparent .
There is no evidence that rare or endan»ered wildlife
species as listed by the California Department of Fish and
Caine would find habitat on the project site (Dept . Fish and
Came , 1970 .
SCENIC RESOITRCES
The I. B. Panch is made up of portions of two older ranch
properties . At the southern extreme of the site is the old
headquarters of the Lisenhy Panch , more recently the Gill
Panch. Old weathered barns , outbuildings , rusty machinery
and a small ranch house make up the headquarters area.
Stretching north-ward and westward frori this antique setting
lies a field of green, ending abruptly ai- a bank of creekside
trees. Flowing off to the north are the light brown fields
of grass dotted occasionally by the rounded canopy of oaks .
For further discussion of Scenic T) -sources , see pictures
( Figures 9, 10, 11 ) and captions on following pages .
AIP QUALITY
Ambient ndors : odors emanating from properties surround-
ing t ►o project site are of the follotiing category
1. Potting pears remaining after Fall crop on 22 acres
of Milton Gill property
2. Pipening and drying of walnut hulls on approximatlelr
100 acres of orchard immediately south of the project
site.
3. Sprays used on Nvalnut orchards may or may not cause
significant odors during summer period.
