A. General: The EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR shall ensure that all submittals are <br /> complete and approved in accordance with the requirements and procedures in <br /> this Section. All submittals must include the reference numbers shown in this <br /> Section. <br /> B. Submittals Required After Contract Award and Prior to Construction. <br /> 1. Material Certification (EW1A): Certification, test results, source, and <br /> samples for all EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR supplied imported material <br /> as required by Article 1.4, IMPORTED MATERIAL ACCEPTANCE, of <br /> this Specification Section. <br /> 1.4 IMPORTED MATERIAL ACCEPTANCE <br /> A. All imported materials specified in this specification section are subject to the <br /> following requirements: <br /> 1. All tests necessary for the EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR to locate an <br /> acceptable source of imported material shall be made by the EARTHWORK <br /> CONTRACTOR. Certification that the material conforms to the <br /> Specification requirements along with copies of the control test results from <br /> a qualified commercial testing laboratory shall be submitted to the QA/QC <br /> CONSULTANT for approval at least 10 days before the material is required <br /> for use. All material samples shall be furnished by the EARTHWORK <br /> CONTRACTOR at his sole expense. Samples shall be representative and <br /> be clearly marked to show the source of the material and the intended use on <br /> the project. Sampling of the material source shall be done by the <br /> EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR in accordance with ASTM D75. Notify <br /> the QA/QC CONSULTANT at least 24 hours prior to sampling. The <br /> QA/QC CONSULTANT may observe the sampling procedures. Tentative <br /> acceptance of the material source shall be based on an inspection of the <br /> source by the QA/QC CONSULTANT and/or the certified test results <br /> submitted by the EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR to the QA/QC <br /> CONSULTANT. No imported materials shall be delivered to the site until <br /> the proposed source and material control tests have been tentatively <br /> accepted in writing by the QA/QC CONSULTANT. Final acceptance will <br /> be based on all tests made on samples of material taken from the completed <br /> and compacted course. All acceptance testing for final acceptance shall be <br /> performed by the QA/QC CONSULTANT. <br /> 2. Particle size control tests by the EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR shall be <br /> made on samples taken at the place of production prior to shipment. <br /> Samples for particle size control testing shall be taken in accordance with <br /> the frequency listed in Table 02300-1 or more often as determined by the <br /> QA/QC CONSULTANT, if variation in gradation is occurring, or if the <br /> material appears to depart from the Specifications. <br /> 3. If during placement of the material, control tests conducted by the <br /> EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR or the acceptance tests conducted by the <br /> QA/QC CONSULTANT indicate that the material does not meet <br /> Specification requirements, material placement will be terminated until <br /> corrective measures are taken. Material that does not conform to the <br /> Specification requirements and is placed in the Work shall be removed and <br /> replaced at the EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR's sole expense.
