H. The CONTRACTOR shall excavate to sufficient lines and grades to construct the ditches, trenches, pond, and sump as shown on the Construction Drawings and described in these Specifications. 1. Shape, trim, and cut ditches and other drainage structures as necessary to achieve grades and dimensions shown on the Construction Drawings. J. Excavate and remove loose and wet materials from the base of the existing sedimentation pond and scarify the surface prior to placing general earthfill. 3.5 LIMITS OF EXCAVATION A. Excavate to the depths and widths, as shown on the Construction Drawings. Allow for minimum thickness of clay liner as required. Excavation carried below the grade lines shown or established by the DESIGN ENGINEER shall be replaced with the same fill material as specified for the overlying fill or backfill, and compacted as required for such overlying fill or backfill. Where the overlying area is not to receive fill or backfill, replace the overexcavated material and compact to a density not less than that of the underlying ground. Cuts below grade shall be corrected by similarly cutting adjoining areas and creating a smooth transition. Correct all overexcavated areas at the EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR's sole expense. 3.6 STOCKPILE ACTIVITIES A. Stockpile all excavated material. Uniformly grade stockpile area to conform to existing contours, leave with a neat appearance, and maintain current drainage patterns. The stockpile shall have a slope no greater than two horizontal to one vertical and the top surface shall have a minimum 5 percent grade. 3.7 GRADING AND SUBGRADE PREPARATION A. This Work shall consist of fine grading and preparation of lining subgrade for the construction of the base and side slope lining. The lining subgrade is further defined as those areas and surfaces within the subgrade upon which lining materials are to be placed. 1. Fine grading shall be performed to grade the subgrade to within the tolerances specified in Section 01410, SURVEYS. 2. The prepared subgrade surface shall be smooth and free of major irregularities. The subgrade should contain no exposed particles larger than 3 inches or other surface irregularities which, in the opinion of the QA/QC CONSULTANT, will damage the overlying GCL, or 60-mil HDPE geomembrane. 3. Overexcavation below the established lining subgrade by the EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR shall, at his expense, be backfilled with General Earthfill Material as directed by the QA/QC CONSULTANT. 4.
