2. Equipment used to place and compact the coarse gravel shall be not travel <br /> directly on the underlying geomembrane. <br /> 3. The EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR shall use low ground pressure <br /> equipment to place the coarse gravel. The following table shall be complied <br /> with during construction: <br /> Maximum <br /> Equipment Ground Pressure Initial Lift Thickness <br /> (psi) (ft) <br /> < 5 0.5 <br /> 5 1.0 <br /> 10 1.5 <br /> 20 2.0 <br /> >20 >3.0 <br /> 3. Method of dumping and spreading materials shall be approved by the <br /> QA/QC CONSULTANT and shall ensure uniform distribution of the <br /> material and prevent damage to the underlying geotextile and geomembrane <br /> lining. Approval does not absolve the EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR of <br /> responsibility for damage to underlying components. <br /> 4. Compaction of Coarse Gravel shall be accomplished by shovel-slicing <br /> during dumping, and taking necessary precautions to prevent damage to <br /> underlying geosynthetics. <br /> C. Quality Control: <br /> 1. General: As the Coarse Gravel material is being placed, the QA/QC <br /> CONSULTANT will be monitoring the construction activities and soil <br /> properties. If acceptance tests conducted by the QA/QC CONSULTANT <br /> indicate that the Coarse Gravel does not meet specified requirements, the <br /> EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR shall terminate material placement until <br /> corrective measures are taken. <br /> 2. Coarse Gravel Acceptance: Final acceptance of the Coarse Gravel will be <br /> based on all tests made on completed Work or on samples of material taken <br /> from the completed layer. Testing for final acceptance shall be performed <br /> by the QA/QC CONSULTANT in accordance with these Specifications and <br /> the CQA Manual. <br /> D. Protection: <br /> 1. Do not route construction traffic on top of Coarse Gravel layer once <br /> material has been placed. <br /> 2. Constructed Coarse Gravel layer shall be maintained to meet the <br /> requirements of this Specification until final completion and acceptance of <br /> the Work. This shall include all measures to prevent erosion. During <br /> seasonal or other extended shutdowns, all exposed surfaces shall be <br /> Forward Compost Facility Stormwater Improvements <br /> 02300 11 EARTHWORK <br />
