Musco Family Olive Comy - 2 - 29 August 2016
Pond D
Musco proposes to conduct further assessment of first encountered groundwater in well
MW-35R by installing an additional groundwater well MW-36 and Piezometer PZ-1 in an attempt
to locate groundwater above the current elevation of MW-35R. Musco proposes to install well
MW-36 between Pond C and D, in the southern berm, at a location similar to where well MW-35
was installed. One to two piezometers are also being proposed to establish triangulation
between the wells and groundwater flow direction beneath Pond D sump.
Recommendations and Conclusions
The DMN for Pond B, C, and D require additional wells to be installed to comply with Title 27.
For Pond B, Musco shall install or deepen wells MW-12, -17, and -22 to eliminate deficiencies of
the DMN and possibly achieve compliance with the WDRs. Staff approves the installation of
replacement lysimeter 36 beneath Pond B. Staff requests the lysimeter be installed to either
five or ten feet below the liner to remain consistent with the rest of the Pond B lysimeters.
For Ponds C, additional wells are also required to eliminate deficiencies of the DMP and to
properly monitor the sump. Musco proposes to install one well MW-34 east of the sump. Staff
agrees with this well placement. Musco proposes to destroy current well MW-34, west of the
sump. Staff recommends this well remain a viable monitoring point which provides triangulation
with wells MW-10R and -34R. Utilizing this well with -10R and -34R will provide groundwater
flow direction across the sump of Pond C.
For Pond D, staff approves the proposed installation of well MW-36--with tentative approval of
one or two piezometers once well MW-36 has been installed. Board staff will be available to
communicate with Musco to review location and depths once the new well boring has been
drilled.
Next Submittal `
By 30 September 2016 the Discharger shall submit an addendum to the work plan proposing to
reconstruct wells MW-12, -17, and -22, agree to maintain well MW-34 once well MW-34R has
been installed, and agree to install lysimeter 36 to a depth of five or 10 feet bgs. Staff approves
the proposed procedures to install wells and lysimeters. .
Musco shall submit a well installation report that includes the required information described in
the Well Installation Report guidelines (attached) by 30 December 2016. Musco shall continue
to collect groundwater samples semi-annually and incorporate new wells into the monitoring and
reporting program.
If you have any questions please contact me directly at 916-464-4737 or by email at
tdelfrate@waterboards.ca.gov.
TODD A.
