DATES OF DISPOSAL
The Tracy plant usually starts processing raw product about July 1 and finishes about
September 25. But,the season can begin as early as June 25 and end as late as October
15. Spreading of liquid waste on the proposed site would occur only when the raw
product is being processed.
AMOUNT OF MATERIAL
Historically(three years data), the number of gallons of liquid waste hauled and spread
from the Tracy plant varies from a low of zero to a high of 50,000 gallons per day.
The wash water component of the waste remains fairly constant through the season
because the number of loads is virtually the same every day.
The peak generation of serum comes when the weather is hot and when the fiuit is mature
and soft and thus easily broken. The maximum number of gallons is usually late July
through mid August.
EVAPOTRANSPIRATION
Evapotranspiration(ET)is the evaporation(E)from soil and plant surfaces. Transpiration
(T)is the evaporation that takes place within plant leaves and the vapor that diffuses into
the air through stomata on the leaf surface.
The following are ET values for Tracy( CMS weather stations- California Department
of Water Resources)
ET(inches of water evaporated per day)
July August September
0.25 0.22 0.17
IMPACT OF MATERIAL ON SITE
Even the maximum gallonage would have little effect on the proposed site.
Acre Inches
An acre foot of water is the amount of water required to cover an acre to
one foot in depth. One acre foot is 325, 850 gallons(43,560 cubic feet).
The maximum daily output of 50,000 gallons amounts to 0.153445 acre
feet per day(50,000/325,850). This is 1.84 acre inches per day
(12 inches x 0.153445).
Impact
If 1.84 acre inches would be spread on 10 acres, all of the moisture
evaporates in less than 24 hours(1.84/10 acres= 0.18 with ET = 0.17-0.25
Even if we spread over 20 acres, the moisture would evaporate in less than
12 hours(1.84/20 acres= 0.09).
