• Estimate the total quantity in yards or tons per day and per acre
The site will receive a maximum of 60 yards (30 tons) on a daily basis.
There is 78+ acres at the site where the residue will be delivered. The Da
Silva Bros. Dairy owns and/or leases over 600 acres within a half mile
radius of this site. The owners currently feed approximately 1,100 cows
at the delivery site, 600 cows at their dairy at 16551 S. Henry, and 300
heifers at 17020 S. Henry.
• Provide a work plan for animal feed
Da Silva Bros. will receive food processing residues as supplemental feed
for dairy cattle and heifers. The residue will be delivered to the dairy on
S. Steinegal and placed on an existing concrete pad along with all the
other feed commodities (silage, cotton seed, almond hulls, hay, etc.)
Prior to use, loose feeds are temporarily stored between "Ag Bags" that
contain silage. The large "Ag Bags" act as bunker walls and keep all the
feeds, and any free liquids, on the concrete. The nearest watercourse is
an O.I.D. ditch which borders part of the entrance road. The ditch is
approximately 3 to 4 feet higher in elevation than the concrete receiving
pad.
All feed commodities, including the food processing residues, are loaded
(using a Fiat-Allis front loader) into a feed truck (White Truck with Laird
mixing/delivery body) and blended together. The blended feeds are
delivered to mangers at all three sites listed above. Approximately 2,000
animals are fed twice per day. At the maximum potential delivery (30
tons/day), the animals would receive only 30 pounds of food processing
residue per animal per day, which is easily consumed within 24 hours.
• Describe all contingency plans for selecting alternative sites and
provide the location of all alternative sites should weather conditions
warrant this condition
Da Silva Bros. operates a dairy at 16551 S. Henry which is almost
identical in size (acreage) to the primary site referenced above. The S.
Henry site also has an existing concrete pad where silage in "Ag Bags" is
stored. This site, or a combination of both sites, could be utilized on a
contingency basis to receive food processing residues.
Due to the small volume of food processing residue, and the large size of
the Da Silva Bros. operations, it seems unlikely that any additional
contingency plans or alternative sites would be necessary.
Page 2
