The site is located in the eastern half of subsections C and F, and
the western half of subsection G, of Section 36, Township 4 North, Range 6 East,
MDB&M. The winery is south of Woodbridge Road and approximately 2,500 feet west
of Highway 99.
2.2 CURRENT USE AND SITE CHARACTERISTICS
Lodi Vintners, Inc. operates a grape crushing and storing facility on approximately 21.5
acres, located south of Woodbridge Road and approximately 1000 feet north of the
Mokolumne River. The topography is fairly level, and the elevation is approximately 55
feet msl. Activities at the winery include the receiving, crushing, and pressing of grapes
and the storage of juice prior to transportation to other facilities. Facility structures,
including warehouses, tasting room, and holding tanks, are located in the northern area
of the site (Plate 3). Wastewater generated during the crushing process is screened
and discharged to four evaporation ponds located immediately south of the facility
structures. Septic waste is discharged to septic/leach field systems located in the
northern area of the facility. Two production wells are located in the vicinity of the
facility structures. The total depth and construction details of the wells are unknown at
this time.
2.3 REGIONAL GEOLOGY AND HYDROGEOLOGY
The site lies within the central potion of the Great Valley Geomorphic Province of
California. The valley is approximately 400 miles long and averages about 50 miles
wide, and comprises about 20,000 square miles. The valley has been filled with a thick
sequence of marine and non-marine sediments from the late Jurassic to Holocene.
The uppermost strata of the Great Valley represent, for the most part, the alluvial, flood,
and delta plains of two major rivers (Sacramento and San Joaquin Rivers) and their
tributaries.
The valley deposits are derived from the Coast Ranges to the west and the Sierra
Nevada to the east. Granitic and metamorphic rocks outcrop along the eastern and
southeastern flanks of the valley. Marine sedimentary rocks outcrop along most of the
western, southwestern, southern, and southeastern flanks; and volcanic rocks and
67451.WP1/ST06R295/FB:Iv Page 2 of 14
©2006 Kleinfelder, Inc.
