The Workplan proposes to abandon
five monitoring wells (MW-1 through MW-5) and six remediation wells (VW-1 through
VW-6). Wells MW-1 though MW-4 will be removed by overdrilling and the borings will
be tremie grouted to surface with neat cement. Well MW-5 and soil vapor extraction
(SVE) wells VW-1 through VW-6 will be pressure grouted to surface with neat cement.
The Workplan states the SVE piping connected to VW-1 through VW-6 will be left in
place, although there is no mention whether the SVE piping will be pressure grouted.
The San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department (SJCEHD) Standards For
Well Construction and Destruction will be followed by the licensed drillers during
fieldwork. The surface of each well boring will be restored to match pre-existing
materials.
The Workplan is conditionally approved as follows:
• MW-1 through MW-3, when last sampled for groundwater, were not impacted by
petroleum hydrocarbons. In order to reduce the cost to the State, please contact
SJCEHD to confirm whether these wells may also be pressure grouted.
• Also confirm with SJCEHD whether the SVE piping needs to be pressure grouted.
• Provide a schedule by email to me for the fieldwork by 30 June 2011.
If you have any questions, you can contact me at (916) 464-4615 or I can be reached
by e-mail at ibarton(a)waterboaa(rds.ca.gov.
r"James L.L.
