The Workplan proposes installation by direct push technology and
sampling of four temporary vapor wells (probes). The Report provides the results of groundwater
monitoring conducted on 7 May 2010.
The Workplan states three probes will be installed along the eastern property line near the tanks pit and
boring CPT-2; and one probe will be installed near the southeast corner of the site building. All probes
will be sampled for soil vapor using Summa®canisters, and analyzed by methods TO-3 for total
petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPHg), and TO-15 for benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylenes,
methyl tert-butyl ether(MTBE), tertiary amyl methyl ether(TAME), tertiary butyl alcohol (TBA),
1, 2—dichloroethane (1,2-DCA) , and the system leak detection compound, isopropyl alcohol.
The Report states depth to groundwater varied from 67' to 68' below ground surface. Groundwater flow
direction was towards the north-northeast at a gradient varying from 0.002 to 0.005 feettfoot. Maximum
groundwater concentrations were MTBE, 9.7 micrograms per Liter(ug/L, MW-3) and 36 ug/L (MW-4) .
TPHg and TAME were not detected this sampling event. The Report recommends suspension of
sampling (semi-annual during the second and fourth quarters) pending the results of the soil vapor
intrusion investigation, and temporary suspension of the startup of the soil vapor extraction (SVE)
system.
The Workplan is approved. Please provide a schedule for the fieldwork by 30 June 2010 by email.
Groundwater sampling during the 41h quarter of 2010 is temporarily on hold, pending results of the soil
vapor investigation, with a comparison to the San Francisco Bay Regional Board Environmental
Screening Levels. The SVE system startup was previously placed on hold during our 13 May 2010
meeting, also pending results of the soil vapor investigation.
