Blaeg Environmental Management Inc 3rd Qtr 2005 Groundwater Monitonng Report
002-70950-06 U-Haul#709-50
. supplied by Environmental Science Corporation (ESC) Following collection, the groundwater samples
were placed on ice and shipped, under proper chain-of-custody protocol, to ESC (a California state
certified lab) of Mount Juliet,Tennessee for analysis
3 22 Groundwater Sample Analysis_-August 2005
The groundwater samples collected during the third quarter 2005 groundwater monitoring event were
analyzed for Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons — diesel range (TPHd) according to U S Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA) Method 3510, Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons — gasoline range (TPHg)
according to EPA Method 5030, and for Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC's) including benzene,
toluene, ethylbenzene, total xylenes (BTEX), fuel oxygenates including methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE),
tert-butanol (TBA), di-isopropyl ether (DIPE), ethyl tert-butyl ether(ETBE), and tert-amyl methyl ether
(TAME) and for 1,1-Dichloroethane (1,1 DCA) and 1,2-Dichloroethane (1,2 DCA) according to EPA
Method 8260
3 3 GROUNDWATER ANALYTICAL RESULTS—AUGUST 2005
1 Laboratory analytical results for the third quarter 2005 groundwater sampling event, which included two
sample groups (middle (B) and lower (C) casing samples), revealed substantial variation between the two
groups The petroleum hydrocarbon concentrations in the groundwater samples collected from the "B"
casing wells were generally consistent for the third quarter 2005 groundwater sampling event as
compared to the second quarter of 2005 Blaes Environmental has observed a wide range of fluctuations
in VOC concentrations during the groundwater monitoring program(Figure 4) The fluctuation in VOC
levels is likely attributed to the seasonal fluctuation of groundwater elevation as the groundwater
interface moves in relation to the smear zone A summary of the analytical results for the August 2005
sampling event is presented in Table 3 A copy of the corresponding laboratory analytical report and
chain-of-custody documentation is provided in Appendix C
Analytical results of groundwater samples collected from the well casings screened across the
groundwater interface (middle "B" casings) revealed two co-mingled plumes of dissolved phase
hydrocarbons beneath the U-Haul site and the Former Harry's Auto Mart Facility The highest
concentrations of hydrocarbons in groundwater at the U-Haul site are from wells MW-2B and MW-313
