Blaes Environmental Management Inc 3rd Qtr 2005 Groundwater Monitonng Report
002-70950-06
U-Haul#709-50
r
The highest concentrations at the Former Harry's Auto Mart are from HA MW-1 Concentration
contours and the approximate extent of Benzene and 1,2-DCA in groundwater for the "B" horizon are
presented in Figures 5 and 6,respectively Analytical results are summarized in Table 3
Analytical results of groundwater samples collected from the lower "C" casing wells, screened between
approximately 60 and 100 feet bgs, revealed the highest concentration of hydrocarbons to be located
around well MW-2C (benzene) and MW-6C (1,2 DCA) Concentrations of benzene and 1,2 DCA were
' below laboratory reporting limits in U-Haul's groundwater samples from monitor wells MW-3C, MW-
5C, MW-1 IC and MW-12C Concentration contours and the approximate extent of Benzene and 1,2-
DCA in groundwater for the "C" horizon are presented in Figures 7 and 8, respectively Analytical
results are summarized in Table 3
The laboratory analysis of fuel additives MTBE, TBA, DIPE, ETBE, TAME 1,1-DCA, 1,2-DCA
indicated concentrations above laboratory reporting limits in samples from wells MW-IB, MC-1C, MW-
2C, MW-4C, MW-613, MW-6C, MW-7C,MW-8C, MW-9B, and MW-IOC Refer to the analytical report
included in Appendix C for details
Based on the third quarter 2005 analytical results, there appears to be limited communication between the
"B" and "C" horizons The light non-aqueous phase liquids (LNAPLs) such as TPH and BTEX, are
generally concentrated in the "B" horizon while the heavier dense non-aqueous phase liquids (DNAPLs)
' such as 1,2 DCA, has penetrated more extensively into the "C" horizon
3 4 PURGE WATER TREATMENT AND DISPOSAL
Groundwater purged during the third quarter of 2005 at the site was stored in an above ground 1,000-
gallon polyethylene tank located on the west side of the U-Haul building When a sufficient volume of
water has been collected for a cost-efficient disposal (4a' Quarter 2005), Blaes Environmental will
subcontract Integrated Wastestream Management (IWM) of Milpitas, California to transport the purged
groundwater to an approved facility for recycling/disposal
8
