Biaes Emrraunenlal Afarragcnterrt Etc U-Haul#709-50
002-70950-04 Groundwater Monitoring Report
03/27/02
4 0 CONCLUSIONS
Blaes EllvllOnmental conducted a groundwater monitoring and sampling event at U-Haul facility #709-50
on March 4, 5, and 6, 2002 In general, groundwater levels in March 2002 rose approximately three feet
since December 2001 Based on the groundwater level measurements from the middle "B" well casings,
the groundwater surface map for March 2002 indicated a slight flow gradient toward the east The
highest groundwater elevation from the middle "B" well casings was measured in monitor well MW-6B
Groundwater level measurements from the lower"C" well casings indicated a relative groundwater low at
monitor wells MW-1C, MW-2C and MW-5C and a relative high at monitor well MW-6C, MW-7C and
MW-8C Although groundwater on the U-Haul property is relatively flat, the general flow gradient in the
"C" casing wells appears to be toward the east
Analytical results of groundwater samples collected in March 2002 from the middle "B" and lower "C"
well casings both indicated the presence of hydrocarbons in groundwater Results of samples collected
fiom the middle "B" well casings revealed that the main portion of the hydrocarbon plume (with benzene
concentrations greater than 1,000 pig/L) includes wells MW-313, MW-2B and MW-413 Results of
samples collected from the lower "C" well casings revealed that elevated concentrations of hydrocarbons
exist near wells MW-4C, MW-6C and MW-7C Two wells are located on the eastern and western
property boundaries, respectively The third, MW-7C is outside the site boundary, south of MW-4C
Despite the detection of hydrocarbons in wells MW-4C and MW-6C, the central portion of the site (in the
"C" depth range) near wells MW-2C and MW-3C did not contain detectable concentrations of TPHg or
benzene in groundwater during this sampling event
Variances between the results of this sampling event compared with the December 2001 sampling event
include an apparent reversal of groundwater flow direction from west to east and a drop in benzene
detected in the sample from well MW-6C (from 2,900 gg/L to 7 6 p.g/L)
S9
