3 4 SITE CONTROL AND WORK ZONES <br /> Appropriate site control procedures shall be implemented to control Field Team Members'exposure to hazardous <br /> substances on-site The site controls for the drilling and soil sampling program at the site will include <br /> A site map showing the extent of the site,adjoining properties,topographic features,and work zones <br /> around the drilling area The zone system will include three zones including the Exclusion Zone, <br /> Contaminant Reduction Zone,and Support Zone <br /> All drilling and soil sampling activities will be performed during daylight hours,thus requiring no <br /> additional illumination sources <br /> ` The buddy system shall be used during field drilling activities This system requires that Field Team Members be in <br /> verbal or visual contact with another responsible person,who would be able to provide or summon help if a Field <br /> 1 Team Member were to become injured,ill,or in danger Contact should be either constant or at some frequent <br /> interval during field work, and may be in person or the form of regular communication via portable telephone or <br /> radio The buddy may be an employee,a client,or a subcontractor as appropriate <br /> Internal and external site communication procedures shall be established before field activities are performed <br /> Internal site communication shall at a minimum provide a mechanism to <br /> Alert Field Team Members to emergencies, <br /> Pass along safety information, <br /> Announce changes in the work to be accomplished,and <br /> Maintain site control <br /> External site communication procedures shall, at a minimum,provide a mechanism to <br /> • Coordinate emergency response, <br /> Report to the Project Manager,and <br /> Maintain contact with off-site personnel <br /> Each Field Team Member shall be aware of the location,address,and route to the nearby hospital specified in <br /> Section 3 7 At least one Field Team Member,along with the Field Team Leader shall have driven the route from <br /> the site to the hospital prior to initiating drilling and soil sampling activities <br /> 3 5 PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT <br /> Personal Protective Equipment(PPE)shall be used to protect Field Team Members from exposure to hazardous <br /> substances and safety and health hazards The initial PPE for the drilling and soil sampling program will in <br /> accordance with Level D protection Level C protective equipment will be on-site,available, and immediately used <br /> in the work area,if levels of contaminants are detected in quantities that warrant the use Blaes Environmental will <br /> immediately shut the project down(until appropriate safety protection is used)if levels exceed the Level D <br /> protection or reach unsafe levels in the work area <br /> The specific PPE for Level D to be used at the site includes the following items <br /> Hard hat, <br /> Gloves, <br /> Boots/Shoes,steel toe, <br /> Safety glasses or chemical splash goggles, <br /> Coveralls or Long Pants and appropriate shirt, <br /> Escape fall-face air purifying respirator or SCBM,and <br /> Face Slueldi, <br /> i optional as necessary for site conditions <br />
