{ <br /> Leader or SHSO,and seek medical care or testing,if appropriate <br /> 2 0 FORBIDDEN PRACTICES <br /> The following practices shall be expressly forbidden during field activities <br /> 21 Entrance onto a site or restricted area without formal authorization,compliance with medical monitoring, <br /> adequate training,or compliance with an approved HASP <br /> 22 Eating, drinking,chewing gum or tobacco,smoking, and/or any practice that increases the probability of <br /> hand-to-mouth transfer and ingestion of material is prohibited in any area designated contaminated <br /> 23 Ignition of flammable liquids within,on or through improvised heating devices(barrels,etc)or space <br /> heaters Open flames are prohibited <br /> 24 Approach or entry into areas or spaces where toxic or explosive concentration of gases or dust may exist <br /> without proper equipment available to enable safe entry <br /> 25 Wearing of contact lens on site area other than the Support Zone <br /> 26 Conducting on-site operations without backup Field Team Member The Field Team Leader and SHSO <br /> should exercise judgement regarding the need for off-site backup at active sites or for sites which have been <br /> repeatedly entered or occupied without apparent harm In any case where doubt exists,backup Field Team <br /> Members shall be present <br /> 3 0 REQUIRED OPERATIONAL PRACTICES <br /> The following operational practices shall be followed when field activities are performed <br /> 31 Field Team Members and equipment in the contaminated area should be minimized,consistent with <br /> effective site operations <br /> 32 heavy equipment utilized in the Exclusion Zone shall be decontaminated before leaving the site This may <br /> be accomplished in the Exclusion Zone of the Contamination Reduction Zone as site conditions dictate <br /> Particular care must be given to tires,dnlIing equipment and other components in possible direct contact <br /> with contaminants <br /> 33 As a general rule,sampling equipment used on waste sites should be disposable Sampling instruments and <br /> other non-disposable equipment should be kept clean in disposable protective covers Dippers,scoops and <br /> similar devices for soil samples should be placed in plastic bags for disposal or later decontamination <br /> Liquid samples from barrels or tanks should be withdrawn in inert glass tubing and tubing should then be <br /> broken and abandoned within the barrel or tank If incineration or recycling of barrel contents is <br /> contemplated,then tubing may be disposed of in other suitable containers <br /> 34 A variety of safety equipment should be available at a readily accessible location on sites as appropriate <br /> First aid kits shall always be present As dictated in the HASP,portable eyewashes, emergency showers, <br /> fire extinquishers, stretchers and other safety equipment may also be required The decision to specify <br /> which equipment will be available and where it will be located shall be specified in the HASP and based on <br /> the site operations and the local availability of emergency services and facilities <br /> a <br />
